The Monday of Months

January is the Monday of months.

February and March feel like Tuesday, the day that has no feeling at all.

In April and May I begin to feel we’ve made it to hump day, cresting the worst part of the work week, the work year.

That leaves June through August with a Thursday feeling, the prospect of happy hour ahead of a shortened workday in casual attire.

September gets tricky. It can feel like Friday to some, but for others school is cranking up and autumn sneaking in. It can feel like Monday all over again, wake me up when it ends.

October through December is where the weekend begins. In a household like mine, there’s a holiday around every corner and many others, besides. Nine nights of Navratri (sometimes in September), Halloween, Diwali, Thanksgiving, and of course the long stretch of December, a month of Saturday unto itself.

Oh, blue Monday, why did the calendar give you 31 days? And this year we are saddled with 29 days during the neutered Tuesday winter blahs.

This is me, expressing optimism for the year ahead. No resolutions but to be resolute. No predictions other than perseverance.

The holidays have been returned to their boxes in the closet downstairs and tomorrow we roll up our sleeves once more.
