Earlier this week the Rotary Club of McLean invited me to join their weekly lunch and share material from Profiles in Service. Afterwards, I recorded the below feature and hope you’ll find time to listen.

The three excerpts highlight how Peace Corps contributes to a diplomatic service steeped in the cultural, linguistic, and technical skills needed for effective advocacy of U.S. economic, policy, and security interests abroad.

This includes the experiences of three Americans who endured 444 days of captivity during the Iran hostage crisis: John Limbert, Michael Metrinko, and Victor Tomseth.

I also share details of how as USAID Mission Director Pamela White relied on a technique she developed during Peace Corps service in Cameroon to implement a successful literacy program for women and girls in Mali after 9/11.

You can read all about the fourteen profiled figures here and have a listen below.

Oh. The experience inspired me to record short takes from the book, which I hope to publish on a rolling basis in the weeks and months to come, starting next week as global unity enjoys a month of World Cup kicks in Mexico, Canada, and the USA.

Stay tuned!
