This clip from my interview with Matthew Whiteside explores the marketing side of writing books, and why a title like Two Pumps for the Body Man can be a real challenge to promote.
The cover didn’t help, not even when it was featured on a website called LousyBookCovers(dot)com (their snark goes to 11…). Check the design here and judge for yourself.
But as Matt was kind enough to remind me, “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.”
The cover, which I designed myself, meant a lot to me. But that’s not really the point of the cover, as anyone who writes books learns. The point of the cover is to actually bring the reader in, not to be some kind of mystery for the reader to resolve after the fact.
